Ohio Arts Council Grant Funding

The Ohio Arts Council (OAC) is committed to making the arts accessible to all Ohioans.  To ensure that Ohio remains a leader in cultural access, the OAC provides funding for the professional development for artists with disabilities.  The Artists with Disabilities Access Program (ADAP) is designed to help artists with disabilities move to a higher level of artistic development.

Funds may be used for a variety of services and materials, such as conference, class, or workshop attendance; mentorship by another artist or arts organization; the rental of studio space or art equipment; planning with an agent or consultant to develop business skills; or purchase of art supplies or services, especially those leading to a performance, exhibition, or publication.

Applicants must 1) be residents of Ohio, 2) have lived in the state continuously for one year, and 3) have exhibited, performed or published work within the past three years.  Applicants may request up to $500; however, most grants average $300.  Applicants do not need to show a cash match.  Activities must take place within a July 1 through June 30 fiscal year.

Further information may be obtained by calling the OAC Accessibility Coordinator at (614) 466-2613 or through Ohio Relay Service at 1-800-750-0750.  Information is also available at the OAC Web site at www.oac.state.oh.us.  Click on “About OAC,” then “Accessibility.”  On the Accessibility page will be a link that will direct you to a description of the ADAP program.

Youth Leadership Forum

The deadline for applications is January 31, 2006.

The Governor's Council on People with Disabilities is now accepting applications for its 2006 Youth Leadership Forum (YLF) for high school juniors and seniors who are students with disabilities. To be eligible for this forum, students must: (a) have a disability; (b) be a junior or senior by December 31, 2005; (c) have demonstrated leadership potential in the school and the community; and (d) reside in Ohio. YLF is a cross-disability forum, so please consider all students with disabilities, from learning disabilities through severe physical impairments. It is our intention to have a forum that reflects the racial, ethnic and disability diversity of Ohio. There is no cost to the students or parents for attending YLF; all lodging, meals, personal care assistance and other costs are paid by the program. While we do ask that students provide their own transportation to and from Columbus, if this is a problem, we usually can work something out. We have volunteer staff and delegates coming from all over Ohio, so carpooling is usually one possibility.

If you have any questions about the program, please contact me at 614-438-1392 or leslie.alloway@rsc.state.oh.us. I will be happy to answer any questions or provide additional information. If you are interested in having a speaker come and talk with a group of students about YLF, please contact me; we often can arrange for a former delegate who lives or who is attending college in a particular area of the state to come and speak.

You can find additional information about YLF, including photos of past YLFs, at the Governor's Council website, http://gcpd.ohio.gov. You also can print out additional copies of the application and the description.
