Conference activities
Wednesday, September 19, 2007 (tentative date)
Annual Membership Meeting, 4:30 PM to
6:00 PM at the University Plaza.
September 20-21, 2007
The
conference will feature a keynote speaker each day, followed by four
hour-long workshop periods offering as many as five concurrent
sessions on wide-ranging topics.
Keynote speakers:
Carolyn Rocchio, mother of a son with brain injury and author of
Ketchup on the Baseboard: Rebuilding Life After Brain Injury
(Thursday, Sept.
20th at 9 AM)
Tina M. Trudel,
PhD,
President, Lakeview Healthcare Systems, Assistant Professor of
Clinical Psychiatric Medicine, University of Virginia Medical School
(Friday, Sept. 21th at 8:45 AM)
Workshops addressing government initiatives
promoting "systems change" to improve individual choice and access
to services and supports for individuals with disabilities
(regardless of the cause) will be of special interest. This is
particularly true in Ohio, since there is no dedicated "system" or
state agency addressing the needs of individuals with TBI.
Naturally, workshops on state-of-the-art research and interventions
promoting optimal independence, day-to-day coping strategies, better
understanding of TBI, and approaches to avoid common pit-falls also
will factor into the equation to make Conference 2007 a successful
one.
Last, but certainly not least, attendees can count on a series of
"lighter fare" workshops just for their fun and enjoyment.
