Mission
Mission Statements of the Ohio Brain Injury Advisory Committee (BIAC)
The mission of the Ohio Brain Injury Advisory Committee is to reduce the incidence of
traumatic brain injury and to influence public policy on behalf of persons with traumatic
brain injury and their families. To promote a system of services and supports which
facilitates healthy, personally productive, and satisfying lifestyles within their
communities for persons with traumatic brain injury and their families.
The mission of the Advocacy Committee is to promote beneficial change through individual
and family empowerment, Systems change and private/governmental initiatives. To organize a
response to state and federal legislative issues, including funding, that are relevant to
the purpose of the Brain Injury Program.
The mission of the Services Committee is to address issues of availability, accessibility,
and cost appropriateness of the care and treatment of persons with brain injuries.
The mission of the Prevention Committee is to identify, promote and support activities and
programs which seek to reduce the incidence of brain injury in Ohio.
The mission of the Research Committee is to identify types of data necessary to describe
the epidemiology of brain injury in Ohio, as well as that needed to serve the information
needs of the BIAC.
The mission of the Structure Committee is to monitor the implementation of the Bylaws,
make recommendations for necessary changes, work toward continuity in BIAC organization,
and assist in networking with resources of the BIAC.
The mission of the Nominating Committee is to recommend membership and chair and
chair-elect nominations to the BIAC.
The mission of the Education Committee is to address issues of education and transition
for persons with brain injury and their families and to promote pre-service and in-service
training of service providers who work with this population.
The mission of the Budget Development and Oversight Committee is to coordinate the BIAC's
financial planning and oversight responsibilities; recommend an annual budget; develop
fiscal reporting mechanisms; and seek out funding sources that may support the needs of
persons with brain injury.
