Week 1 of Brain Injury Awareness Week -March 1 - 7, 2026
Theme: Understanding Brain Injury
Brain injury is often called the “invisible injury” — and yet it affects thousands of Ohioans every year.
Before we talk about statistics and systems, we start with understanding.
This week focuses on the basics:
What brain injury is (including traumatic and non-traumatic causes)
Common symptoms and long-term effects
Why brain injury is often misunderstood
How it impacts individuals, families, and communities
Brain injury can happen in an instant — from a fall, car crash, sports injury, stroke, overdose, or other medical event — and the effects can last a lifetime.
The more we understand brain injury, the more compassionate, responsive, and supportive our communities can become.
Use these posts to educate, spark conversation, and help make the invisible visible.

Not all brain injuries are visible. Many survivors experience challenges like memory loss, fatigue, headaches, and emotional changes—often without outward signs. This can lead to misunderstandings and a lack of support. Together, we can break the stigma and build a more supportive world for survivors!
